Jessica Gethin Wins Conducting Award

Australian conductor Jessica Gethin is the 2015 winner of the Brian Stacey Emerging Conductor Award.  From the press release:

The annual awards, established in 2002, recognise an Australian conductor, early in their professional career, who shows significant promise and skill.

Gethin is the fourth woman to receive the award (prior winners were Kellie Dickerson, 2002; Vanessa Scammell, 2008; and Carolyn Watson, 2013).  Gethin will receive a $10,000 cash prize and appear at the Helpmann Award Ceremony.  This is a particular honor as the it is the penultimate Stacey award that will be given – the final will be in 2016.  More information about the award and foundation can be found here.

This isn’t the first big news for Gethin this year – she was also accepted into the inaugural class of the Dallas Opera Institute for Women Conductors.
