Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy is proud to have provided Performance Grants in the U.S. since 2012, helping hundreds of community, professional, and youth orchestras across the country perform works by historic and contemporary women composers. The impact of these grants has been heard from coast to coast, by small and large ensembles, in rural and urban communities, in live, broadcast and streamed performances. We remain committed to identifying and facilitating opportunities for broader representation and inclusion, and on impacting systemic programming decisions in American orchestral concert programming to more accurately resemble the actual diversity found within historical and contemporary western art music.
Our original intent with this grant program was to encourage more performances of works by women composers by large ensembles. We revised it in 2022 to focus on impacting long-term orchestral programming decisions with a small number of grants being offered over a three-year period.
The grants program was re-evaluated in 2024 and the decision made to offer smaller grants for specific projects and events to benefit a greater number and wider range of organizations and ensembles. As of January, 2026, the WPA grants program is temporarily unavailable as we take time to reevaluate and re-imagine how it can best be used to serve our mission. We appreciate your understanding and will share updates as details become available.
