Here’s some news for this week!
Gabriella Smith’s vast and remarkable new work “One” was premiered by the Santa Rosa Symphony on Jan. 8. We are happy that it is available via this stream, (but only until until February 16), and we are proud to have supported this work with one of our 2019 Performance Grants!
And speaking of premieres, Judith Shatin’s work, Respecting the First (Amendment) is still available on Vimeo, performed by the San José Chamber Orchestra with a video by Jonah Tobias (image from the video). Don’t miss it! We are not sure how much longer the video will be available.
WE are always looking for bloggers / music critics / writers to take up writing about new and unknown works, to engage with the music’s language in a way that will bring in listeners and give them a foothold for approaching a piece the first time. OperaCréole’s “A celebration of Black Women in classical music and civil rights, from Ida B. Wells to Kamala Harris” will take place on March 6 in New Orleans. In January we reported that this exciting event was postponed due to Covid19.
