Alex Ross writes (in The New Yorker) about music that is being made in response to Black Lives Matter and the pandemic. Included are works by composer and intermedia artist Ash Fure who composed a piece expressly intended to be heard via technology, and cellist and composer Tomeka Reid who composed a work for piano to honor the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade.
English National Opera is responding to the Black Lives Matter movement with a series of anti-racist films “What Do You Hope For? featuring song performances. Starting July 7, for seven days, the series is curated and directed Simone Ibbett-Brown. Composers include Errollyn Wallen, Christine Jobson, Sarah Ruff, and Adolphus Hailstork.
