The New York Times profiles Yip Wing-sie, who is conductor of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.  The conversation is about her experiences as a woman and a minority in finding her way to the podium, as well as the current statistics, and stigmas, surrounding women conductors today.

 

Classical-music.com created a list of 10 (more) women composers you should know – and stepped away from the usual list of Hildegard, Clara Schumann, and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.  Read on here.

As we get ready to close out 2016 Feministing.com has a list of Resolutions for 2017, “Making Marginalized Voices Your New Normal”.  It lists several important ways that we can all be more conscientious of the voices that we’re paying attention to, and who we are ignoring.  Add to the list, “Listen to more music by women composers!”
