News and music to start your week!

WQXR often posts listicles of note – this week they shared again their list of 12 Romantic Composers Not Named ‘Liszt’ or ‘Brahms’.  Included are: Louise Farrenc, Clara Schumann, Augusta Holmès, Teresa Carreño, Cecile Chaminade, and Dora Pejačević.

Last week we shared our findings in the 2019-2020 concert season data we collected.  In a stroke of coincidental timing, conductor Jordan Randall Smith wrote about the value in programming works by women composers, and how there is no excuse not to.

We’re delighted to hear that pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason (pictured above) will be recording an album of Clara Schumann’s piano works.  The Guardian has the article.

NewMusicBox’s Danielle Ferrari has an article about the importance of women role models in the music world.

I Care If You Listen frequently offers great conversations with contemporary composers.  This week I’m getting caught up and reading conversation with Dale Trumbore as well as Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade and Shruthi Rajasekar.
