March is always busy, and this one is especially so! Feb. 29 (Leap day!) we have a concert by the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony featuring the he West Coast premiere of Ethel Smyth’s Overture to her opera The Boatswain’s Mate.  This overture includes Smyth’s famous anthem, The March of the Women, and is included in presented in honor of the 100th Anniversary of U.S. women winning the right to vote with the passage of the 19th amendment. The concert also features The Violins of Hope.

March 3, The Eastman School of Music offers a one-day  GENDER EQUITY IN MUSIC CONFERENCE.  Elizabeth Rowe, principal flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is the keynote speaker.  Rowe sued the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2018, demanding equal pay with her male colleagues.

And March 20-22, musica femina münchen (Germany) proudly presents the 2nd Diversity in Music Conference: They do indeed compose and conduct! Women composers and conductors in today’s music.  A description in English is here. The more detailed German website is here.
