There are so many exciting concerts happening in this busy time! We hope you get to take in a few — or more! Just to highlight some very special events —
May 5-6, the Boulanger Initiative has their annual WOCO Fest “Awaken!” — celebrating Women and gender-marginalized Composers! The Festival takes place in Bethesda Maryland at the Strathmore, and concerts on Friday night and Saturday night will be streaming, Friday night here and Saturday night’s concert by Roomful of Teeth, streams here. The program for Sat. night (with notes about each piece) is given here.
And May 6-7, the Arkansas Symphony in Little Rock is featuring the brilliant Dr. Samantha Ege as soloist in Doreen Carwithen’s Piano Concerto (1948)! This composer is so little known — both in her native U.K. and in North America, that we wanted to be sure to applaud this visionary programming! While this concert won’t stream, what was probably the first performance of Carwithen’s Concerto in the U.S. took place last year, her centenary year, and is on Youtube (with soloist Alissa Freeman).
