Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra has been appointed the first music director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane, Australia.  The New York Times has the story.  You may be familiar with de la Parra from this video that’s been circulating of her animated, and enthusiastic conducting style:

And there is more good news for women conductors – it was just announced that the Lucerne Festival will feature 11 different women leading top orchestras.  Included will be Marin Alsop, Barbara Hannigan, and Susanna Mälkki.  Read more at the New York Times or the official press release.
