We are thrilled to once again offer funding through Performance Grants – supporting performances of works by women composers by American orchestras.
The goal of these grants, first established in 2012, has been to encourage future performances of works by historic and contemporary women composers. Any American orchestra – community, professional, or youth – is welcome to apply.
This year we are also excited to be offering two application periods. The first will be in Fall 2016 (with applications due October 14) for performances taking place in 2017 and/or 2018. The second will be in Spring 2017 for performances taking place June 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2019. We encourage long term planning for exciting and innovative concert programming.
Since the Performance Grants were first established we have helped fund exciting performances across the country:
Though there are differences than similarities in the range of orchestras we have helped support (from just-established community orchestras to professional ensembles, from Miami to Portland, and performing a range of historic and contemporary works) each ensemble demonstrated a commitment to performing works by women, and helping to further educate their audiences and communities on the rich history that is too often omitted from concert programs.
There is $15,000 in available funding for the Fall 2016 cycle. Help us spread the word in your community, and encourage performances of more works by women composers on concert stages in your own neighborhood!
