New Works this Weekend

There are lots of opportunities to hear works by contemporary women composers this weekend, and throughout the coming week!   On Sunday, May 21 the Community Women’s Orchestra in Oakland, California will present Forbidden Voices, including June Bonacich’s Sorrow is a Willow Tree and a selection from Street Requiem, an enormous and internationally performed work composed by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne, & Jonathan Welch that brings awareness to issues of homelessness.  Find out more information and tickets about this weekend’s concert here.   The American Composers Orchestra is presenting a concert titled Parables on Tuesday, May 23rd in New York City as part of Symphony Space’s Fuse…

Music All Weekend

We continue to march on towards the end of the 2015-2016 concert season, and this weekend is full of concerts featuring works by women composers.  We are also proud that we were able to support so many great ensembles – from coast to coast – with WPA Performance Grants.     The Alabama Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Sarah Hicks, is offering two opportunities to hear Missy Mazzoli’s Holy Roller – Friday (May 13) and Saturday (May 14).  Tickets and information available here.     The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Dr. Teresa Metzler Howe, is presenting their Spring Concert…

New Works This Weekend

Congratulations to the Community Women’s Orchestra and Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra – both WPA Performance Grant winners presenting works by women composers in concerts this weekend! This Saturday, February 20, the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra (HICO) will perform a concert titled “Voices of Connecticut Poets” and will feature the world premiere of a new work by Jessica Rudman with text by poet Elizabeth Hamilton.  Iseult Speaks will be performed with Guest Artist Charity Clark.
