With a truly exhilarating range of programming the 18th annual CSU Fullerton New Music Festival offered four days of interaction with influential performers and composers and memorable, cutting-edge concerts, February 19-23. Among the highlights were performances by the student ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble which performed Cindy McTee’s “The Unquestioned Answer.” The CSUF New Music Ensemble engaged in two of Pauline Oliveros’ iconic “Meditations” as a tribute to this hugely influential composer who passed away just over two years ago. “The Tuning Meditation” is focused and contemplative, while “Interdependence” demands rapid response and agility.  The works offer sets of instructions…

Contemporary Women at Cabrillo

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music has celebrated new music for 55 years – performing, commissioning, and advocating for the works of the greatest living composers, as well as creating opportunities for young composers to have their works heard.  After decades of dedicated leadership, Marin Alsop has handed the reigns of the Festival to Cristian Macelaru, who is directing his first Festival this year, with an impressive line up of concerts and events already underway! Celebrating March With Music by Women

March is Women’s History Month – and while we think that every month is  good time to include women’s work in concert program, it’s a particularly appropriate time to reflect on women’s work and impact through time.
