2018 will be remembered as the year of the #MeToo movement – the effects of which have been felt throughout society, including in the world of classical music. Yet, the fallout faced by some high-profile conductors hasn’t been as lasting as we would have hoped. The New York Times looks at the allegations faced by conductors Daniele Gatti and Charles Dutoit, and how even with their victims speaking out they are back on the podium.
The new attention on women’s voices and women’s work has led to new questions about diverse representation in music. The New York Times also explored the history of Boys Choirs and their refusal to accept girls. Read on here.
