We are excited to share two opportunities for scholars and composers to present and promote their work!

Listening to Ladies, which has an outstanding podcast that showcases the work of contemporary women composers, has partnered with the contemporary ensemble Vent Nouveau to announce a Call For Scores for all composers who identify as women.  The works can be new or previously performed – but must be submitted by January 15.  Winners will be featured in a concert held in March 2017.  More information, including submission and scoring guidelines, can be found here.

This year, 2017, marks the sesquicentennial anniversary of Amy Beach’s birth, and the centennial anniversary of Teresa Carreño’s death.  In honor of these notable anniversaries, which are ignored by most conductors, ensembles, and music critics, a conference is being held to recognize and honor their lives and music.  But the conversation isn’t going to end there!

The conference organizers, who include Liane Curtis, WPA President, and Sarah Gerk, professor of Musicology at Binghamton University, have announced a call for papers to include a wide range of topics related to women’s work in American (North, Central, and South American) music.  They are seeking papers, as well as lecture recitals.  Submission deadline is April 1.  Find out full details here!
